Hope North Newsletter Introduction | Autobiographies | Articles
I am 16 years old. I was born in 1992, 26th of April, in Gulu Hospital and I grew up in Gulu town. My father came to Gulu town when rebels were disturbing people in northern Uganda. I took my Primary Level Exam at Gulu Prison Primary School in 2006 and then joined Gulu College School. I stayed only for one year, due to lack of money. Because I failed to finish the second year in Gulu college and I lost both my parents and I am a total orphan, Mr. Okello Sam brought me to Hope North. I thank Mr. Okello Sam for registering me in Hope North. God bless Mr. Okello Sam. Read "Report on the Boys' and Girls' Dormitory" Co-written by Acaa Winniefred Grace
I am 17 years old and I was born on 27 November, 1991. I was born in a village called Oppit and grew up in Gulu town. My father came to the town in 1996 when the LRA rebels were disturbing people in northern Uganda. I started my primary one in Gulu town and I took my Primary Level Exam in Kasubi Army primary school in Gulu in 2005. I joined Gulu Central High School, where I studied for only two years. Due to lack of money, I failed to finish the second year. On 12 November, 2006, I joined a boxing club in Gulu. I played for two years in Gulu and for one year in Kampala. When I came back from Kampala, I found they were registering students for sponsorship at Hope North, so I registered and had the opportunity to go to school. I decided to join vocational section and I am doing well there. I have started to gain skills, so I would advise other students to join vocational schools for that reason. My ears got hurt during the war on or around 19th August, 1995. The army rebels of the LRA, under the leadership of Joseph Kony, came and took me from our home, a village called Gulalela 7km from Pajule town. We walked from Uganda up to the Sudan for three days to a place called Kikwamba. One night around 12:30am, the Uganda People’s Defense Force [UPDF] Army came and started fighting with the LRA. One army chief of the LRA told me “Don’t move anywhere, I will kill you!” I was standing there when a big boom went off and at the same time the LRA was firing bullets going BOOM! I started feeling my ear was not working and I could not hear any sound or if someone was calling me. After that I started running from where they had been fighting. There were five of us who came back home to Gulatela from Sudan after four days without eating any food. We had only drinking water and we had some other seed drink from the bush. We were like slaves who had come back home. When I came back home, our family welcomed me and I started feeling well, but I told my parents about my ear and they cried. A good Samaritan was giving me medicine to treat my ear, and on the same day, my ear started working, but not well or clear. In 2002, I was in primary five. We had been staying in the IDP camps [“Internally Displaced Persons”] in the Pajule trading centre. One day my dad came across the army of the LRA on the road. They killed my father for nothing and my mamma told us to pray that the son of the living God who created us in His world should keep our family. I want to continue with my studies until I complete. Today I am a technician in wiring, electronics, repairing phones, radio and other things. In my future and for all of my family I am going to be strong. My objective is to contribute to the improvement of the situation in Uganda and to the disadvantaged and disempowered members of the society in a protective and consistent manner. So I wish to be with you in physical or spiritual form from abroad, there in America or anywhere. And if God accepts it, you can come and visit me in Uganda and we can tour around the districts in northern Uganda.
